Is Singapore the right choice for an MBBS degree?

The answer to that question can be found in the reports of Singapore’s quality of life, and in the infrastructure dedicated to medical research. Here’s a country where medical practitioners are held in high esteem and given the impetus necessary to motivate breakthroughs and inspire scientific rigour. There are three medical schools in Singapore, each of them being an ever expanding abode of trained experts and acclaimed doctors. To which one of them should you apply? That’s a question for your overseas education consultant.

What would you need?

A stellar GPA, that’s what you need. At least at the high school level. You are also required to have a working knowledge of chemistry, physics and biology. If you have an international baccalaureate degree in any of these subjects, that would be even better. The rest of it is for you to learn at one of the three illustrious medicine schools in Singapore: the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine at Nanyang Technological University, and the Duke-NUS Medical School. Ask your overseas education consultant to guide you through your prospects in detail.

Will you fit in?

If you’re worried about language barriers, don’t be. At least not if you are conversant in English. All the three centres of medical research acknowledge English as the lingua franca. As a non-native speaker of the language, you may have to produce proof of language proficiency; you may also have to learn Malay, the official language of Singapore. But it’s always fun to explore new cultures and social frontiers. Singapore is a dizzying panorama of exchange students and international visitors. You will fit in just fine!
